Bringing forth a new companion?

Lokaji can only be brought into Develesja in the company of a Handler. Before submitting your Lokaj, make sure you have read over the information below and followed the instructions for their appearance as well as found a Handler with a free slot for a Lokaj.

A Companion For Life

A Lokaj is the essential companion to your Handler. Not only is it impossible to submit a Handler without a Lokaj, the Lokaj you choose for your Handler has the potential to shape their future interactions within the in-game world.

Lokaji Rules

  1.  The number of Lokaji your Handler can have is limited by their type. The limitations are as follows:

    1. A singular Handler can only own one bulwark Lokaj, and no other.

    2. A singular Handler can only own two herald Lokaji, and no other.

  2.  Your Handler starts out with only one Lokaj slot, and unlocks more as they level up.

  3.  Only officially obtained Lokaji can be submitted as characters. You must have a link to where the Lokaj was created or transferred to you in order to register them as a character.

  4. A Lokaj consists of a living form and a weapon form. Both must be fully designed for the Lokaj to be accepted.

  5. The Lokaj's reference image must be created using the official template PSDs, linked above.

    1. The PSDs contain a full template for your Lokaj's living form.

    2. Your Lokaj's weapon form should be drawn in the designated spot within the template PSD.

  6. The Lokaj's design must adhere to the options set out in its cast, and must display all of them. This includes displaying their heraldic beast as a carving on the weapon. Tail feathers count as part of the 'front half', and must match it in colour.

  7. The Lokaj's weapon form design must be reasonable. This means:

    1. No comically oversized weapons.

    2. Somewhat period-accurate designs (e.g. no modern-era bows).

    3. Bows, as an exception, are allowed to fold, meaning the limbs can fold backwards to form a U-shape.

While some more fantasy-esque details are permitted for flavour, your Lokaj's weapon form should, for the most part, look wholly ordinary.

First time designing a Lokaj?

No worries! Just follow these simple steps:

  1. View your Lokaj's Cast. It will look something like this:

    • [ Awakened Bow | Heraldic Wolf ]

Wings of Iron, Limbs of Walnut

      Granted Ardor
      F 7 · D 9 · R 0 · A 9 · W 0

  2. The non-bolded text (Bow, Wolf, etc.) on the first line indicates what ⚔️️weapon your Lokaj is - folders you should use in the PSD. Enable these folders and disable the other options, with the exception of the background.

  3. The non-bolded text (Iron, Walnut) on the second line shows what 🪵materials your Lokaj is made of. Here is where you can colour in the folders you just selected. View the material swatches and rules lower on this page, in the tab corresponding with your Lokaj's region of origin. This is also where you'll find available patterns (markings) to put on your Lokaj. Remember that the feathers on the front half of your Lokaj must look metallic - this does not apply to their beak, skin and legs, though!

  4. The last line indicates whether your Lokaj possesses 🔮arcane abilities. If this line says anything other than Ardour, visit the Gramarye page to learn more about how your Lokaj's magic affects their appearance.

  5. And that's it! You may colour in the lineart, but please do not add any chromatic aberration or other effects to the import and do not draw anything into it (flowers, animals, etc.). Please save this reference image as a PNG and send it in to be uploaded.

Appearance

Lokaj Appearance

Different regions in Develesja have different materials available for Steelchanting. Furthermore, Lokaji from a given region may display specific patterns unique to that part of Develesja. Using the navigation below, you may view the available regional variants along with their swatches and instructions.

A quick tip on pattern guide interpretation

Some ARPGs operate with the philosophy of 'What isn't explicitly prohibited is allowed' in designs - in Fogbound Fables, this is not the case. Instead, the pattern guides below are written to be read at face value. If a pattern says it creates A splash of natural red on the underside of the body, it:

  • DOES create a (small or large) splash of natural red (anywhere) on the underside of the body

  • DOES NOT create a splotchy, striped, dotted, swirly, or sculpted patch, nor is it any other colour that could technically be considered red but not by standard definition.

If anything is unclear, do not hesitate to ask in #questions!

On this page, you can find all materials for Lokaji available within Sivá Hora. The material that your Lokaj is made of is determined by their Cast, the string of information you acquire from a Steelchanter. This page merely holds the swatches for the individual materials. Your Lokaj's colours should be picked directly from these swatches.

If your Lokaj was forged in Sivá Hora, they can display up to three expected patterns and up to one remarkable pattern, listed further down on this page. You can freely select whichever patterns you want, or use none of them. Patterns will not be carried over if you use your Lokaj as an Exemplar during Steelchanting.

Blade/Bow Grip Materials

Use the swatch corresponding with the material listed in your Lokaj's Cast. You may utilise the full swatch to create patterns like countershading or dark points on the head/limbs, as long as everything is fully blended.

The front half of your Lokaj must look metallic and must display at least subtle highlights from the lower highlight box on the swatch. It is recommended to first use the "Optional Sheen" layer included in the PSD, colour it in with some light tones from the main swatch, and then highlight a few spots on it using the highlights box.

Arcane Metals

Metals such as Verdant Vortex cannot be used as swatches for patterns. They may be rarely found in some Ventures and other events.

Handle/Bow Limb Materials

Use the swatch corresponding with the material listed in your Lokaj's Cast. You may utilise the full swatch to create patterns like countershading or dark points on the head/limbs, as long as everything is fully blended. This part of your Lokaj should have no metallic highlights.

Expected Patterns

Select up to three of these patterns to apply to your Lokaj's design. The following rules apply:

  1. Patterns can be any naturally occurring colour found in the region, i.e., similar to colours shown on this page save for arcane metals.

  2. Patterns can have different colours within them, but should have one main colour overall (e.g., they can be tan and fade into a light brown, but they cannot be tan on the chest and simultaneously black on the hind legs)

  3. Patterns have no limited range or form – just keep it reasonable, make it resemble the theme/inspiration, and ask if you are unsure.
