A Hero Discovered

Your Handler is the character you will discover and travel Develesja with. Unlike with Lokaji, their reference image is always custom-drawn, albeit using the provided frame.

Handlers must adhere to the rules set out below. Their appearance, abilities, and background may be affected by a number of tokens from the Fated Favours store.

Handler Rules

Your Handler must always be submitted alongside a Lokaj.
Your Handler always starts at Level 0, with 25 stat points. View information on stats in the character submission form, and their short summary below.
By default, Handlers start out with commoners' clothes, 300 Groschen, a neutral reputation with all factions, and Kamenitsa as their residence.
1. If a Fated Favours token is applied to your character, it may alter the above listed starting attributes.
Your Handler must adhere to the in-game lore in terms of appearance, naming, and history.

Handlers Among Nobility

Have you claimed a Background: Prosperity or Background: Knight token from the Fated Favours store? If so, please heed the rules below:

Background: Prosperity

Your character is part of a noble family. You must make a choice - select an Open Character Slot from the Residents and noble families document linked on your region's page to make your character join an existing noble family, or create your own family of Vladyka status or lower.

Available noble family character slots are listed in the above-linked document. To claim a slot to one of the noble families, you must submit a form available in the #noble-families channel. Your slot will be placed on hold for the duration of 1 month, starting with the date your request was processed by an admin. If you do not submit your character by that time, the slot will be freed up again.
Once you have claimed your slot, simply list it in the Notes section of your Handler submission. Please note that once you have claimed your slot, you may not change your choice of token from Fated Favours - you are locked into your choice of Background: Prosperity.

If you instead wish to create a family of your own, please head directly to the #noble-families channel and use the second provided form to submit your noble family to the Residents and noble families document. You may create open slots in this family if you wish - players wishing to claim a slot to this family will need your approval before being granted the slot, unless you specify that you wish to open the family completely. Please note that your family will need some lore, some members, and a plausible place of residence.

Background: Knight

Your character is part of an existing knightly order. You may not create your own knightly orders for this purpose. Please select a knightly order from the Factions page. Orders have no limited slots, and as such there is no claiming process. List the order in the Notes section of your Handler submission, and your reputation will automatically be set to +110 (member) with that order. Please remember that Lokaji cannot join factions, only their Handlers can.

A Companion For Life

A Lokaj is the essential companion to your Handler. Not only is it impossible to submit a Handler without a Lokaj, the Lokaj you choose for your Handler has the potential to shape their future interactions within the in-game world.

Lokaji Rules

The number of Lokaji your Handler can have is limited by their type. The limitations are as follows:
1. A singular Handler can only own one bulwark Lokaj, and no other.
2. A singular Handler can only own two herald Lokaji, and no other.
Your Handler starts out with only one Lokaj slot, and unlocks more as they level up.
Only officially obtained Lokaji can be submitted as characters. You must have a link to where the Lokaj was created or transferred to you in order to register them as a character.
A Lokaj consists of a living form and a weapon form. Both must be fully designed for the Lokaj to be accepted.
The Lokaj's reference image must be created using the official template PSDs, linked above.
1. The PSDs contain a full template for your Lokaj's living form.
2. Your Lokaj's weapon form should be drawn in the designated spot within the template PSD.
The Lokaj's design must adhere to the options set out in its cast, and must display all of them. This includes displaying their heraldic beast as a carving on the weapon. Tail feathers count as part of the 'front half', and must match it in colour.
The Lokaj's weapon form design must be reasonable. This means:
1. No comically oversized weapons.
2. Somewhat period-accurate designs (e.g. no modern-era bows).
3. Bows, as an exception, are allowed to fold, meaning the limbs can fold backwards to form a U-shape.

While some more fantasy-esque details are permitted for flavour, your Lokaj's weapon form should, for the most part, look wholly ordinary.

First time designing a Lokaj?

No worries! Just follow these simple steps:

View your Lokaj's Cast. It will look something like this:

The non-bolded text (Bow, Wolf, etc.) on the first line indicates what ⚔️️weapon your Lokaj is - folders you should use in the PSD. Enable these folders and disable the other options, with the exception of the background.
The non-bolded text (Iron, Walnut) on the second line shows what 🪵materials your Lokaj is made of. Here is where you can colour in the folders you just selected. View the material swatches and rules for this on the region page of the region your Lokaj was forged in, in the Lokaji tab. This is also where you'll find available patterns (markings) to put on your Lokaj. Remember that the feathers on the front half of your Lokaj must look metallic - this does not apply to their beak, skin and legs, though!
The last line indicates whether your Lokaj possesses 🔮arcane abilities. If this line says anything other than Ardour, visit the Gramarye page to learn more about how your Lokaj's magic affects their appearance.
And that's it! You may colour in the lineart, but please do not add any chromatic aberration or other effects to the import and do not draw anything into it (flowers, animals, etc.). Please save this reference image as a PNG and send it in to be uploaded.

But what about my stats?

The F | D | R | A | W text in your character registration contains your character's stats. Stats are very simple - see their descriptions below.

Force | Your character's strength of mind and body alike.
Dexterity | Your character's agility, reaction speed, athletic capability.
Resilience | Your character's endurance, perseverance, and drive.
Acuity | Your character's perception, precision, knowledge and intelligence.
Witchery | Your character's persuasion, artistic capability and charisma.

Stats determine how your character handles specific challenges in the game, similar to tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons or any other RPG.

Select your Handler's stats using the rules in the submission form, and paste your Lokaj's stats from their Cast.
