Sivá Hora

Oppressor. Creator. Homeland. Sivá Hora is a region filled with craggy slopes, crystal clear streams, and tall, ominous mountains wreathed in mist, ever reaching for the skies above.

Tumultuous Times

The current margrave of Sivá Hora is Isobela Jastrzeb. When she was last seen in public, she was a formidable woman, taller than most of the warriors that surrounded her and twice as bloodthirsty as any of her cutthroats and assassins. Isobela was infamous for her love of drinking, men, women, and any all pleasures life had to offer. She claimed Sivá Hora's throne after her mother died of old age, but cared little for the politics and economics of the region's day-to-day life.

This, of course, was all before she mysteriously vanished only a few months ago. As Isobela did little to rule Sivá Hora in the first place, her political and executive presence is not exactly missed, but the margrave's disappearance is an unprecedented event still. Even now, Lokaji and their handlers are out searching for the woman, though they always return with nothing but more rumours to chase. Last reports of the margrave state that she ventured north on a diplomatic mission, but all records of her travels end there.

While Isobela is missing, the margraviate is ruled by her younger brother, Záviš. Due to his young age (15), he relies heavily on Isobela's advisors. Záviš is never seen without the presence of Isobela's personal guard, a Lokaj handler named Helena. Helena is a knight and an experienced warrior, and is accompanied by a herald Lokaj named Clairvoyance (sword, lynx). Together, they have steered Sivá Hora into a state of unsteady calm while they await the return of the region's rightful ruler.

They say he wanted to run an orphanage, before the King called him to his side.

Rurik's Stronghold

Home to Rurik Zhdanov of Bukovec, this stronghold is known among Sivá Hora as a place where those apprentices cast away by their masters for their supposed lack of competence are offered a second chance.

The stronghold is nestled deep in the mountains and is perpetually guarded by Might, Rurik's lifelong companion.

Those are no Skaletajan scholars, friend. The Straznovi practice the true craft.

Veles' Tower

The Straznovi family are a peculiar lot. Not quite the knights that have settled in Sivá Hora's other forts, but rather healers, clerics, and scholars. The tower is kept in good condition, but its residents are withdrawn and prefer to be left alone.

A place of revelry, and political intrigue unfamiliar to Sivá Hora's native residents.

Slunovrat

This fort, albeit home to another knightly order, is open to visitors and known for its residents’ laid-back attitude. The Knights of the Solstice, residing within the fort, have pledged themselves to protecting trade routes and accompanying groups of vulnerable travellers... while throwing the occasional party. Virtually every week or so.

The song echoed from here, first. Never forget that.

Kamenitsa

Nothing ever happens in Kamenitsa, or so they say. For being the place where the supposed inventor of the Steelchant was born, the town sees little excitement year-round, and the residents thus have little to distract them from the tedious agricultural cycle dictating the town’s day-to-day activities.

Some say, however, that the local blacksmith is a distant heir of the original first Steelchanter and hides a wealth of knowledge about Lokaji that he shares with no-one but his apprentices.

They say the first Bulwark was made here, and I wonder which was named first.

Velmir Keep

The Margrave resides in Svetlovor, but many of the warriors they command are stationed in Velmir Keep. It is said the people of the Keep are ready to march at any given time, and the admission procedure for even being allowed within the fort’s premises is rigorous and without exceptions.

Zelené- what? I shudder at the thought of someone living so high up those mountains.

Zelené Hvozdí

Even the most erudite scholars of Develesja would often forget this town’s existence, prior to the discovery of verdant vortex, a light green/teal metal suited for Steelchant. Currently, the local knightly orders and minor nobles are fighting amongst themselves to decide who should claim ownership of the town and its rich vortex deposits.

The fortress looms and stretches like a damn long shadow. And he's always looking at us, from that little window of his. Bastard.

Sunset Bastion

Sunset Bastion is home to Sivá Hora’s best-known Steelchanter, Tatyana Jiskra. She owns a herald Lokaj named Impeccability whose living form is half spoonbill, half horse. Few get the chance to see either of these individuals, however, as Sunset Bastion is fiercely guarded by a knightly order called the Hawks of Winter.

The order’s Grand Master, Rajke Veletan, holds an aggressive political presence in the region due to Sunset Bastion’s production of a rare material called eclipsed brass. The Hawks of Winter take after their Grand Master and are notoriously arrogant and ignorant of local issues. Tatyana works with the order begrudgingly but is often heard having explosive disagreements with Rajke and his closest advisors.

When the sun lowers over the horizon, the streets appear golden.

Svetlovor

Stone buildings huddle together to form narrow corridors and oppressive-feeling walkways. In the city centre, close to the foreboding Castle Svetlovor, the city opens up into grand streets lined by statues of the Steelchanters of old. Right before the castle gates, the city opens into the Main Square, lined with richly decorated buildings occupied by wealthy merchants.
